Halloween Costumes

I just put the children to bed and tripped over my son's halloween costume on the floor. As I picked it up to put in his closet, I thought to myself, "This is the stupidest costume ever." It is a Superman costume, foam chested, size twelve and it looks so cheap it is laughable. Even so, it seems jolly because it is a costume and to my son represents good times. I wonder about the people in China who made this. Are they standing knee deep in toxic waste, working unbearable hours for a small amount of money, making this and other junk trinkets which will bring a temporary smile to my kid's face while they have a miserable existence? Anyway, after I got done being sidetracked with feeling guilty for buying cheap stuff from China, I got back to feeling guilty about not being creative enough to make my kid's costumes myself. I know the Disney Family Fun magazine has a bunch of cute, creative costumes you could make easily at home. But I know me and my kids will wear cheap, made in China costumes this year (and all future years I predict). Either way, they'll get the same amount of candy and have the same amount of fun trick or treating. I hope.
